Slightly surprised to be eventing at all given the torrential rain all week, we doubtfully left at 5am for Weston Park with Kings Advocate and Rienroe Lucky Ranger in the OI. The ground was heavy, but huge efforts had gone into allowing the event to stay running. Michele Hedley's Kings Advocate made the most of being in the early section by storming around to take a win in the Open Intermediate with a 28 dressage and double clear - second after dressage less than a mark behind none other than Chilli Morning! He show-jumped beautifully and made nothing of the going to produce one of his best cross-country rounds to date. He has enormous scope, so the deep going was no problem to him.
I was drawn at the end of the day with Rienroe Lucky Ranger, and made the decision not to run him as he is more a top of the ground horse and there was nothing to be gained. It was great to have been given the choice of running though, and huge thanks to all the team who made sure that Weston didn't join the long list of cancelled events this Spring.
