Burnham Market

After more snow during the week, I was unable to ride for a few days and it was touch and go whether we would be able to get the lorry out to get to Norfolk, never mind whether the event would be able to run! We were pleasantly surprised when we got there and the ground and courses looked amazing. The weekend started off great with Catherine Joice’s MJM Bobby Dazzler doing a brilliant double clear to finish 2nd in his first Novice of the year. He is an amazing jumper and it is hard to believe he is only 6! Also second, on the same score as the winner, was Homme D’Hotot M, who will step up to Novice next time out. I also was delighted with my tests in the CIC*** with Biscuit in 3rd with a 24 (76%) Rory doing a PB for 31, and Bond 2nd in the CIC** with a 25! I was so gutted as that was where it ended and they never got to do the fun bits! Heavy overnight rain left no option but for the event to be abandoned, despite the best efforts of the organisers. We were lucky enough to be staying with Catherine’s daughter Tory and her husband Ed who didn’t live far away. To have lovely stables for the horses as well as warm beds and yummy food certainly eased the pain of the event being cancelled. The long drive back gave us ample opportunity to start onto plan D at this stage! The only consolation is that everyone is in the same boat, and at least I have had one run with both Rory and Biscuit, which is more than some! Belton next, and lots of fittening work to be done in the meantime to get Rory ready for Badminton. Before Burnham I had a great meeting with Alan Nolan from our sponsors Gain Horse Feeds to discuss Rory’s nutrition as he is quite a difficult horse to keep weight on, and his appetite drops off when he gets fit. Alan had recommended trying the Prep and Condition mix and the results have been amazing. He is tucking into it like there is no tomorrow, and it has really helped with getting his fitness right and keeping him in good condition. Even more exciting is that Alan and Bronze Flight have made it in off the Badminton wait list and will also be there competing!
